Description:
Map: Sussex. Monochrome with ornate border, the map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. There are illustrations of ships and sea creatures. On the left is a map of Chichester with a key to significant places. A book-shaped cartouche contains the tile under which is inscribed: 'Described by John Norden, augmented by John Speede and are to be sold by Tho. Bassett in Fleet Street, and Ric. Chiswell in St Paul's Churchyard'. Inset at the bottom are five coats of arms of the Earls of Sussex and Arundell. A framed paragraph bottom right describes the Norman invasion of 1066 and the subsequent reign of William. Bottom left is a scale bar.
