Description:
|
Saturn - Dragon & Child. The series of images in Splendor Solis show the alchemical death and rebirth of the king. Each flask represents a planet. Surrounding the flask are various scenes of daily life including tanning a hide, ploughing a field, a hanging, a funeral and beggars at a town gate. The images were copied by Wing from the Splendor Solis in the British Library (Harl. MS 3469), written and illuminated in 1582. Wing was a British painter and illuminator, active during the 19th century.
