Description:
Two photographs taken by Robert Hunt. Print 64: Mr Piper's house, North Shore, March 1858; Print 65: Dawes Point, Battery, Fort Phillip etc, 10th April 1858. The photographs are in a collection of photographs of Australia, taken or compiled by William Stanley Jevons during the 1850s. Between 1854-1859 Jevons was employed as assayer at the Sydney mint and also carried out detailed social surveys of the city's slums. Frederick Piper was a partner in the Sheffield firm of Levicks & Piper; he was not associated with the mint, but Jevons had a letter of introduction to Piper from his father.
