The photographs are in a collection of photographs of Australia, taken or compiled by William Stanley Jevons during the 1850s. Between 1854-1859 Jevons was employed as assayer at the Sydney mint and also carried out detailed social surveys of the city's slums. Robert Hunt was First Clerk of the Bullion Office, Elliott A Knipe was Registrar and Accountant, and Drummond and MacCutcheon were clerks at the mint.
