The text talks about a series of portraits and is accompanied by illustrations of Hans Holbein (1460-1524); Sir Anthony Van Dyck, Anthony, 1599-1641, and an unknown man. On the facing page there is a full page engraving by Bernard Baron, 1696-1762, of Thomas Herring, 1693-1757, from a portrait by William Hogarth, 1697-1764.
