Description:
|
Single line engraving in black ink. The return to Job in his unfriendly but now recognisable pastoral setting finds a favourable shift in the cosmos with a constellation of stars appearing in the night sky and shining down on Job and his fatigued entourage. The stone monuments that once spread malignantly over Job's home now cluster together to display more of an architectural narrative that might correspond to notions of an emerging, cooperating civilization within the desolate hills. This evolution seems to be personified in the presence or actions of the enigmatic standing figure Elihu. His pose is defiant and biblical, and however horrifying his 'wrath', the apparent changes show a stabilising of Job's realm. The magical environment shines through into the border with prismatic intensity, displaying a further panoply of stars and hosting a string of innumerable winged spirits that sweep over an image of a peaceful, slumbering Job and ascend beyond the material world to an unknown plane above.
