Description:
|
Three women are leaning over a large log and measuring it. They are wearing overcoats and hats. A fourth woman is dressed in an overcoat with a visible badge on the arm and wearing a slouch hat. She holds a notebook in her arm. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under the Timber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917. Training camps for cutting and measuring the timber were held at several locations, including Wendover.
