Two women kneeling down and holding a two man cross cut saw between them. One is dressed in breeches and jumper, the other is wearing breeches, shirt with arm band and a slouch hat. There is a third woman dressed in an overcoat and slouch hat holding a measurer standing beside them. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under the Timber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917. Training camps for cutting and measuring the timber were held at several locations, including Wendover.
