Black and white photograph: Professor Michael Polyani. A photo of Polyani with Dr A.G. Evans (also of the chemistry dept) stood besides him watching an unidentified figure perform an experiment demonstrating the formation of plastics. Michael Polyani was Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Manchester 1933-1948, and Professor of Social Studies 1948-1958.
