Description:
|
The interior of the main corridor on the first floor of the Owens building; Taken from a position near to the top of the southern staircase the shot is angled northwards along the length of the passageway showing the vaulted ceiling of the corridor with its exposed beams. To the east of the photographer the stone stairs run down to the lower levels of the building with four pairs of marble pillars interspersed with a wrought iron balustrade partitioning the stairwell off from the passage. The stairs are bordered on their eastern side by stained glass windows that look out over the front quadrangle. The floor of the corridor is stone with an ornate patterned border running along either edge. There are doorways visible along the east and west sides of the passage providing access to various rooms within the building and about a third of the distance along its length from the photographer a chair has been placed against the western wall. On the front of the frame 'Geoff Hillman, Estates' has been written in pencil.
