Description:

Vellum roll depicting a chronological history from the creation to 15th century France. It contains 65 painted medallions. The first column relates to the Ptolomeys of Egypt in Jerusalem, followed by the line of Judas Maccabeus. The second column tells of Balthazar, King of Babylon, the invasion of Cyrus the Persian, Darius the Mede, Xerxes and Vasti, and Alexander the Great. The third column relates the story of Rome after the death of Romulus, the conquering of Gaul, and the Tarquins, the Etruscan kings of Rome. The fourth column details early British kings including Lear. The medallions depict events from the text, including the founding of the city of Lutesse [Paris] (31), the banishment of Vasti (32), and the poisoning of Alexander the Great on the day he was crowned emperor (33).
