Description:
A change of hand occurs on this folio at 'chalaunge of eny man'. The date 1332 also appears in the margin. The word 'knaves' has been erased on the fifth line. The words ' Edward 3 ' appear in the top margin. The tale of how the Scots rebel army was defeated at Halidon Hill, and Berwick castle won. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

at þat bataile shotten arwes so faste and sore þ(t) þ(e) scottis mighte nouȝt helpe ham self and so þey smyten þ(e) scottis þousandes to grounde and þey gonne for to flee fram þe englisshe men for to saue hire lif // And whanne þe en- glisshe sav þe scomfiture and þe scottis falle faste to þe grounde þey prekede here maistres hors w(t) þe spores for to kepe ham fro p(er)ile and sette hire maistres at no force // And whanne þe englisshe men sawe þat þey lepte on hir horse and faste p(ur)suede þe scottis and alle þat abiden þey quelde. doun right. þ(er)e men mighte sen þe doughtinesse of þe noble king Edwarde and of his men how manliche þey pursueden þe scottis þ(t) flowen for drede // And þ(er)e men myghte se many a scottissh man cast doun vnto þ(e) erþe ded and hire baners displayede hakkede in to peces and menye a good habregoun of steel in hire blood baþe and many a tyme þe scottis were gadred in to companyes but eu(er)more þey were descomfitede // And þus it bifel as god wolde þat þe scottis had þat day no more foison ne myȝt aȝens þe englisshe men. þan .xx(ti). sheep shulde haue aȝens vif wolfes. and so were þe scottis descomfitede and ȝit þe scottis had vif men aȝens on englissh man and þ(t) bataile was done att Halydoun hulle bisides þe toun of Berwyk att þe which bataile were slayne of þe scottes .xxxv.M(l). and vij.
