vnto þe Abbay of Dunfermelyn: and þ(er)e he fond vitailleȝ for him and for his folc and amo(~)ge alle oþ(er)e þinges he fond in a chamber aboute. v. C. of grete stafes of fine oke with longe pikes of yren and of steele he nome ham and dely uerede ham to þ(e) most st(ro)ngest of his companye // And anon aftir he wente fro þennes and loggede him in a felde .ij. myle fro sent John(~)es toun(~): and whanne þe burgeyses of þe toun herde how þe erl was discomfited þorugh S(ir) Baillol þey were sore adrad and broken þe brugges þ(t) þey had made on þe water of Erne: so þ(t) þe Baillol mighte nouȝt gon ou(er)e wherfore he loggede him þ(er)e al þ(t) nyȝt: but litel hede he toke of reste and saide vnto his peple // Now dere lordes ȝe kno- weth ful wel þ(t) we ben now loggede bituene oure enemys and ȝif þey mowe vs hampre þ(er)e nys bote til deth: wher fore yif we abide here al þis nyȝt stille y leue þat it shal turne vs to muche harme: for þe poer of Scotlande may eu(er)y day wexe and entreste and we may nouȝt so and we bene but litel peple aȝens ham wherfore y p(ra)y ȝow for þ(e) loue of almyghty god make we vs bolde and hardy and þat we mowe mightily take þe scottis þis nyght and boldely werre vpon ham and lete vs pursue ham þis nyȝt and yif þey ben trauailed þorugh vs and þey se oure hardynes: so þat oþ(er)e scottis þ(t) comen and mete ham and se ham so tra- uailed and werye þe sorer wilen ben adrad w(t) vs for to fighten: and fersliche þanne we shullen fighte and vppon ham pursue so þ(t) þorugh þe g(ra)ce of almighty god al þ(e) world shal speke of doughtinesse of oure chiualrie // And S(ir)es vn- dirstondeth wel þat all þe companye þ(t) comen w(t) S(ir) Edward Baillol g(ra)untede wel vn to þat counceil and were þ(er)of glade and anon pursuede vppon þe scottis þ(t) þey bicomen wond(er) wery and þe Baillol and his company sore folwede ham and dede ham moche sorwe þorugh hire assaut. so þat þey myȝte nouȝt for feble ham helpe and for litel peple // But þo saide amonges ham what is now vs bifalle: þat so
