The words ' Edward 3 ' are written in the top margin. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' H ' introduce the tale of how King Edward goes to France to do homage for the Duchee of Gyene, but leaves without taking leave of the King of France. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of Roger Mortimer, the Earl of March's great pride. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

Mortimer for þe Mortymer coueytede for to haue hire lan- des ȝif þat he myghte þorugh ony man(er) coniettynge for he was so coueytous and had to muche his wille. and þat was gret piete. How king Edward wente ouer þe see for to done his homage vnto þe king of F(ra)unce for þe [...] Duchee of Gyene .C(o) CC(mo). xviij(o). Hjt was nought longe [...] after þat þe king of F(ra)unce þorugh counceil of his dosse- piers sente to king Edwarde of Engelond þat he shulde come to Paris and don his homage as resoun it wolde for þ(e) duchie of Gyene // And so þorugh consente of þe lordes of Engelond king Edwarde wente ouer þe see and att ascencioun he come vnto Paris .þe .iij. ȝere of his regne. for to done his homage vn- to þe king of F(ra)unce and þe king vnderfeng his homage and made muche ioye and worshipe: but er king Edwarde had made his homage: hastily he was sente aȝen in to Enge- londe þorugh þe Quene .Is(abel). his moder and anon hastily he com aȝen in to Engelonde vppon Witsonday w(t)oute ony takinge leue of þe king of F(ra)unce. wherfore he was wonder wroth How S(ir) Rog(er) þ(e). Mortim(er). bar him so proutliche and [...] so hye Capitulo CC (mo). XX(mo). And now shulle [...] ȝe hure of S(ir) Roger þe Mortymer of Wygemore þat desirede and coueytede to ben at an hey estat . so þat þ(e) king g(ra)unted hi(~) to be called erl of þe March þorugh out al his lordship // And he bicome þo so proute and so hauten þ(t) he wolde lese and forsake þe name þat his auncestres had eu(er)e bifore. And for þat enchesou(~) he lete him calle erl of þe March.
