The words ' Edward 2 ' are written in the top margin. The tale of how Thomas of Lancaster tries to persuade Sir Andrew Herkela to join the rebels and to rid the country of those who are influencing the King. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

þat was in þe North cuntree þorugh ordinaunce of þe king for to kepe þe Cuntree of Scotlande herde telle how þat Thom(a)s of Lancastr(e) was descomfited and his companye at Burton op. trent. he ordeinede him a strong poer and S(ir) Symound al- so warde þat was þo Sherref of york. and come and mette þ(e) Barouns at Burbrigg(e) and anon þey breken þe brigg(e) þ(t) was made of tree // And whanne S(ire) Thom(a)s of Lancastr(e) herde þat S(ir) Andrev of Herkela hadde. brought w(t) him such a power he was sore adrad and sente for S(ir) Andrew of Herkela. & with him spake and saide to him in þis manere. S(ire) Andr(ew) quod he ȝe mowe wel vndirstonde how þ(t) oure lord þ(e) king is lad and mysgou(er)ned by muche fals counceile. þorugh S(ir) Hugh þe Spenser þe fad(er) and S(ire) Hugh his sone and S(ir) Joh(a)n erl of Arundell. and þorugh. maist(er) Robert Baldok a fals piled clerk þat is in þe kinges court duellyng wherfore y p(ra)y þat ȝe wolde come with vs wiþ al þe poer þat ȝe haue ordeyned and helpe to destroie þe venyme of Engelonde and þe traitours þ(t) beth þ(er)inne and we wile ȝeuen vnto ȝow þe best p(ar)t of vif erldomes þat we haueth and holdeth and we wil make vnto ȝow an oth þ(t) we wil neu(er)e don þing w(t)oute ȝoure counsaile and so ȝe shulle ben eft as wel with vs as eu(er)e was Rob(er)t of Holande // þo ansuerede S(ir) Andrew of Herkela. and saide S(ir) Thom(a)s þat wolde y nouȝt done ne co(~)sente þerto for no manere þing þ(t) me myghte me ȝeue w(t)oute þ(e) wille and co(~)maundeme(~)t of oure lord þe king for þanne shulde J ben holde a traito(ur) for eu(er)more // And whanne þe noble erl Thom(a) of Lancastr(e) saw þat he nolde consente to him for no man(er)e þing. sire Andrev he saide wile ȝe noȝt consente to destroie þe venyme of Engelond as we ben con- sente: at o word S(ire) Andrev J telle þe þat er þis ȝere be gon þat ȝe shulle ben take and holde for a traitour and more þan ȝe holde vs now and in wers deth ȝe shul die þan eu(er)e deide eny knyght of Engelond. and vndirstondeth wel þat ȝe dede neuer þing þat sorere shal ȝow repente and now goþ
