þere þ(t) he had þe maistrie // And ȝit M(er)lyn saide þat þ(er)e shulde come a peple out of þe NorthWest durynge þe regne of þe forsaide dragoun þat shulde be lad by an elle grehound þat shulde þe Dragoun c(ro)une king þ(t) aftirwarde shulde fle ou(er) þe see for drede of þ(e) dragoun w(t)oute comynge aȝen and þat was p(ro)ued by S(ir) Joh(a)n Baillol. þ(t) king Edwarde made to ben king of Scotlande. þ(t) falsly aros aȝens [aȝens] him. and aft(er) he fled de in to his owene landes of ffr(a)unce. and neu(er)e com aȝen in to Scotlonde for drede of king Edward // And ȝit saide Merlyn þat þe peple þ(t) shulde lede þ(e) forsaide g(re)hounde shulde ben faderles until a certein time and he saide soth. ffor þ(e) peple of Scotland gretliche were dissesede sith þ(t) sire Joh(a)n Bail lol hire king fley fro Scotland // And ȝit saide M(er)lyn þ(t) þe sonne shulde bicome in his time as reed as ony blood in tokenyng of gret mortalite of deth of peple and þ(t) was wel knowen whanne þ(e) Scottes were slayne // And sith sai- de Merlyn þ(t) þilke dragoun shulde norisshe a fox þ(t) shulde mene g(re)te werr(e) aȝens him þ(t) shulde nought in his tyme ben ended. and þ(t) semede wel by Rob(er)t þ(e) Brus þ(t) king Edward norisshede in his chambr(e) þat sithenes stal away and me uede gret werre aȝens him. which werr(e) was nought ended in his time // And aftirward Merlyn tolde þ(t) þis dragoun shulde ben holde þe beste body of al þe worlde: and he sai- de soth for þe good king Edward was the worthiest knyȝt of al þe world in his tyme // And ȝit saide M(er)lyn þ(t) þ(e) dra- gou(~) shulde die in þe marche of an oþ(er) lande and þ(t) his lande shulde be longe wiþoute(~) ony good keper(e) and þat men shulde wepe for his deth fram þe yle of Sheepe vnto þe yle of Marcille. Wherfore allas shulde ben hire co(~)mune songe among peple faderles. in þe londe wastede and þat p(ro)phecie was knowe ou(er)al ful wel for þe good king Edward deide at Burgh op sandes þat is vppon þe march of Scotlande. wherfore þe Englisshe me(~) gretely were discom fortede and gou(er)ned in Northumbirland for enchesou(~) þat
