Description:
The words ' Edward I ' are written in the top margin. The tale of the death of Sir John Comyn and his brother Roger, at the hand of Robert the Bruce. There is a faint note at the bottom of the folio that 'my MS. B is deficient for the remainder of this reign'. The is a catchword at the bottom right of the folio. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

gray freres of Dunfris and þat was þe þorisday after Candel masse and S(ire). Joh(a)n g(ra)untede ham for to wende with ham // And whanne he had herde masse he toke a sop an dronk and after warde he bistrode his palfray and rode his way and so come to Dunfris: and Robert þe Brus saugh him come at a wyndow as he was in his chambre and þo made ioye ynow and come aȝens him and collede him aboute þe nekke and makede with him good semblaunt // And whanne alle þe erles and barouns of Scotland were p(re)sente. Robert þe Brus spak and saide sires quod he ȝe witet wel enchesoun of þis comyng and wherfore it is. yif þat ȝe wil g(ra)unte þ(t) J mote be king of Scotland as þ(e) righte heire of þe lande. and alle þ(e) lordeȝ þ(t) þ(er)e were saide with o vois þat he shulde be crounede king of Scotlande. and þat þey wolde him helpe and mayntene aȝens alle man(er)e men on lyf and for him yf it were nede dye // þe gentil knyght þo Joh(a)n of Comyn ansuerde and saide: certes neuere for me ne for to haue of me as muche helpe as þe value of a botoun. for þat oth þ(t) y haue made to king Edwarde of Engelonde y shal holde the while my lif laste and wiþ þat worde he wente fro þe companye and wolde haue wente vppon his palfray: and Rob(er)t þe Brus pursuede him wiþ a drawe swerde and bar him þorugh þe body and S(ire) Joh(a)n Comyn. fel doun vnto þe erthe // But whanne Roger þ(t) was S(ire) Joh(a)n Comyns broþer saugh þe falsnesse and sterte to S(ire) Robert þe Brus and smot him w(t) a knyf: but þe fals traitour was armed vnder so þat þe stroke mighte don him non harme and so muche help come aboute S(ire) Rob(er)t þe Brus þat Rog(er). Comyn. was þ(er)e q(ue)lde and alto hewe in to smale peces // And Robert þe Brus tur nede aȝen þ(er)e þ(t) S(ire) Joh(a)n Comyn þe noble baroun lay wounded and pynede toward his deth bisydes þe hie auter in þ(e) chirche of þe gray freres and saide vnto S(ire) Joh(a)n Comyn. O. traitour þow shalt be dede and neu(er)e after lette myn avauncement and shook his suerde at þe hye auter and smote him on þ(e) heuede þ(t) þe brayn fel doun oppon þe g(ro)unde an þ(e) blood sterte
