mandie and þe werre was strong bituene ham too: and þo deide þe king of ff(ra)unce .and lowys. his sone was made king anone after his deth. and þo wente king Henr(y) aȝen in to Engelonde. and mariede Maude his douȝt(er) to Henry þ(e) Emp(er)o(ur) of Almaigne Of þe debate þat was bituene king lowys of ff(ra)unce and king Henry of Engelond and how king hen- ryes too sones were loste in þe hye see . Cao. vjxx:. xvjo. Whanne king Henry had ben king .xvij. ȝer. a gret de- bate aros bituene king lowys of ff(ra)unce and king henry of Engelond. for enchesoun þ(t) þe king had sent in to Normandye to his men for þey shulden ben helpynge to þe Erl of Blenes as muchel as þey mighte in were aȝens þe king of ff(ra)unce and þ(t) þey were as redy vnto him as þey wolde ben vnto hire owene lord. for enchesoun that þe Erl had spoused his suster dame Maude. for which enchesoun þe king of ff(ra)unce dede muche sorwe to Nor mandye wherfore þe king of Engelond was wonder wroþ: and in haste wente ouer see w(t) a g(re)te poer and come in to Normandie for to defende þat londe and þe werere bituene ham laste .ij. ȝere .til at þe laste þey too fouȝ ten togidere and þe king of ff(ra)unce was descomfited & vnneþe scapede a way wiþ muchel peyne and þe most part of his men were taken and þe king dede w(t) ham what him likede and some of ham he lete gon freleche and some he lete putte to deþe. but afterward . þo .ij. king(es) were accorded // And whanne king. Henry had hollyche al þe lande of Normandye and scomfitede his enemys of ff(ra)unce: he turnede aȝein in to Engelond w(t) muchel hono(ur) and his .ij. sones William and Richard. wolde come aft(er) hire fader and wenten to þe see w(t) a gret companye of peple. but er þat þey myȝte come to londe: þe shippe com aȝens a roche and brak al in to peeces and alle were dren- chede þat were þ(er)inne. sauf o. man þat was in þe same shippe þat ascapede and þis was in sent Kat(er)ines day.
