Description:
Buerne and the Danes Hungar (Hinguar) and Hubba battle and slay King Elle, who tries to defend York. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'A' introduce the tale of King Edmund (Edmond), who battles with the Danes and takes refuge in a castle. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

ȝe shulle come þ(er)inne and for soþe þey haue slayn þ(e) king Os- bright // And whanne king Elle þese wordes herde. he lete as- semble alle þe folc of þe cuntre and ordeigned al þe poer þ(t) he mighte haue and wolde haue gete þe toun(~) of ȝork w(t) strengþe: but þe Danoys comen out anon and ȝaf ham bataile and quelde þe king and þe most p(ar)t of his men. þat he had brought wiþ him. and þe same place þere þat þey were slayn. shal eu(er)more ben called Ellecroft. and þat place is alitel fram york // And þo abide þe.da- noys neu(er)e til þey had conquered al Northumb(er)land and in þat cuntre þey made wardeynes and wente forþ(er) in to þe land and token Notyngh(a)m: and þere þey abi- den al þe wynt(er). and deden al þe sorwe þ(t) þey myghte. And after whenne somer tyme come: þey remeued f(ro)m Notyngh(a)m. and come vnto Nichole and to.Lyndeseye. and to holonde. for no man mighte him withstond: somuche poer and strengthe þey had How sent Edmond þe king was martred. Capitulo Centesimo Quinto And so ferr(e) hadde þe Danoys passede fram cuntre in to cuntre and eu(er)more brennynge and robbynge and destroyede al þat þey mighte til þey comen vnto Tetteford and in þat cuntree þey founden a c(ri)stene kyng þat muche louede god and his werk þat me callede Edmund and he was king of Northfolc and of Southfolc // þis sent Edmund þe king ordeignede as muche folc as he mighte and faught with þe Danoys. but he and his folc were scomfited and þe king him self dryuen vnto a castel of fframelyngh(a)m. and þe Danoys him pursuede and come(~) vnto þe same castel. and whanne king Edmund saugh þat þe castel mighte nought ham withstonde he come aȝens ham w(t) wham þe Danoys ferst speken. and ano(~) þey axede of him where king Edmund was. now for soþ(e) quod he whanne J was in þe castel y was king and whanne J. wente out of þe castel he wente out also
