Description:
How Oswy, Oswolde's brother reigns in Northumberland, and how his men want to divide up the land between them, and so go to Peanda for help to battle with Oswy. How Peanda is slain. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'H' introduce the tale of King Offa, Oswolde's brother. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

fair miracle. boþe þere and ell where // and anon. Oswy his broþ(er) seisede in to his hande al þe lande þat was Oswal des and þe folc of Northumberlande louede him wonder wel and helde him for hire lord. but he had men of his kin worþy ynough þat wolde haue departed þe lande and þey werrede togidere. and for as muche as þey were nought stronge ynough þey comen to Peanda and prayde him of helpe and soco(ur). and bihete him of þat londe largely vp on couenau(~)t þat he wolde ham gye and helpe and coun- ceile // Peanda. herde his p(ra)yere and so spake with þe king Cadwalyn. þat he shulde ordeigne a gret host and faste ordeigne him in to Northumberland for to fighte w(t) Oswy. And Oswy was a meke ma(~) and muche louede pees and charite and prayde Peanda of loue and pees and pro- fered him of gold and of siluer gret plente// And þis Pe anda was so proute þat he nolde g(ra)unte him pees for no ma- nere þing: but for al þing he wolde wiþ ham fighte so at þe laste þ(er)e was sette a day of bataile and. Oswy. eu(er)e had trist vppon god: and þis Peanda triste to muche vppon his pride and vppon his host þat he had. and to gidere þey smyten egrely. but Peanda anon was descomfited and slayn. and þat was aft(er) þe Jncarnaciou(~) of oure lord Jhu(s) c(ri)st v.C. and.lv.ȝere // And þis Oswy. þo regnede .xxviij.ȝere. and a king þat me callede. Oswyn. þat was Peanda his cosyn werrede oppon king Oswy. and togidre foughten. but Oswy. had þe vittorie. and Oswyn. was descomfited and slayn. and lith at Tynnemouthe Of king Ossa that was souerayn of alle þe kinges of Engelond and how eu(er)ich wer [...]rede vppon oþer in his tyme.Co.Cmo.secu(~)do Hit bifel so [...] þat alle þe kinges in þat tyme þat were in þe londe as þo of Westsex.
