tyme þe hote Bathes shullen bicomen colde and after þat shal þe Moldwerpe dye auent(ou)esly and sudeynly. allas þe sorwe for he shal be drent in a floode of þe see. His seed shal bicome poure faderles in st(ra)unge launde for eu(er)more and þanne shal þe lande be departed in .iij. parties þat is to seyn to þe wolf to þ(e) dragoun(~) and to þe leoun(~) and so shal it ben for eu(er)more and þanne shal þis lande be called þe lande of conquest and so shullen þe rightful heires of Engelond ende. How Ar- thur ou(er)come Guillomer þat was king of Jrlande and how þe Scottes bicomen his men Capitulo lxxvjto. Whanne Guillomer þat was king of Jrlande had ti- dynge þat king Arthure was entrede at Glastyng bery. he ordeignede a gret poer of Jrisshe men and come to þe see wiþ his Jrisshe peple and so come in to Scotlande ouer þe se and arryuede faste by þere þat king Arthur was wiþ his host and anon as he herde þ(er) of he wente toward(es) him and ȝaf him bataile and ou(er)come him anon right and Guillomer fledde wiþ his men aȝen in to Jrlande an whan ne þis discomfiture was done Arthur turnede him aȝen þere þat he was in to þe place þat he had left þe scottis and wolde haue ham alle slayn // But þe Bisshoppes. ab botes and oþ(er)e folc of þe cuntre : and ladies openhede comen bifore king Arthur and cried him m(er)cy and saide sire gen til king and mighty haue m(er)cy and pite of vs and as ȝo(ur) self beþ of þe righte lawe to holde and maynte cristendome: ful grete dishonour it sholde ben to quelle ham þat leuet in almighty god as ȝe done: and for goddes loue haueþ mercy and piete of vs: and suffren vs for to lyuen for we haue had muche sorwe & pyne for þe Saxones haue many ty mes þorugh oure londe passede but þat is nouȝt ynough to ȝow for often tymes þay haue don vs muche sorwe and disese // ffor oure castels þey haue taken and oure bestes slayn and eten and muche harme þey haue vs done and ȝif ȝe wolde now vs quelle it were non hono(ur) // to a kinge
