Description:
Meditations on the Life of Christ. Jesus appears to his disciples, including the disciple Thomas who had been absent when Jesus appeared to them the first time and had doubted his resurrection, Mary, his mother, and Mary Magdalene. He then tells them to go to 'Mont Thabor' in Galilee where he will appear again. Red rubrication and an illuminated decorated initial 'A' introduces chapter fifty-nine. Jesus appears to his disciples in Galilee. Red rubrication, illuminated and pen-flourished initials. The written space is 188 x 130 mm, with two columns. The codex has been collated incorrectly, f.118 precedes this. The scribe has incorrectly named the section as Die Sabbati; however it should be titled Die Dominica.

Notes:
The Meditation on the Life of Christ or the Meditatione Vitae Christi was believed to have been written by the famous 13th-century Franciscan John Bonaventura but more recent scholarship has now attributed the authorship to a little known 14th-century Italian Franciscan, Johannes de Caulibus. Little is know of Love himself, though it appears that he was the prior of Mount Grace, a Carthusian monastery in Yorkshire, as a 'Dom Nicholas Love' is listed as such in 1410.

Purchased by the John Rylands Library from the London booksellers Bull & Auvache for £25.00 on 12 July 1905.
